Germany will take up an invitation to play England in the first international
match at the rebuilt Wembley Stadium next year, the German coach Joachim
Loew said on Monday.
Speaking at his end-of-year news conference he said the match will take
place on August 22.
However a spokesman at the English Football Association said he could
not confirm the fixture would take place.
The FA's Director of Communications Adrian Bevington told Reuters: 'We
are unable to confirmn that match at the moment. All we know definitely
for next year is our European championship fixtures and our friendly with
Spain in February.'
Germany were the last team to play England at the old Wembley. The Germans
won the match on Oct 7, 2000 1-0 with a Dietmar Hamann goal.
