Northern Ireland boss Lawrie Sanchez has admitted that he
expects to step down from his role as national team manager at the end
of the current European Championship campaign.
Snachez, who almost quit the job following the 3-2 win over Spain in September,
is keen to get back into club management and told The Sunday Life: "The
likelihood is that whenever the campaign finishes, I need to be looking
forward to my next job.
"In the meantime, the IFA (Irish Football Association) are in agreement
with me, that if a job comes up that interests me and would allow me to
continue with Northern Ireland, then I would be given permission to speak
to the relevant club.
"I am committed to finishing the campaign because I want to see how
well we can do."
Sanchez, who was interviewed for the then vacant Ipswich Town manager's
post in the summer, was coaxed into staying in at the helm of Northern
Ireland, despite being annoyed with media coverage of the team.
He insists he has not been in contention for any other positions.
