Liechtenstein have appointed Bidu Zaugg as the new coach of the national team, replacing Martin Andermatt who left to take charge of BSC Young Boys in October.

'First-class abilities'
"Our goals and demands are in accord with Bidu Zaugg's," said Liechtenstein Football Association president Reinhard Walser of the new 53-year-old coach, who will leave his current position as sporting director of Swiss side Neuchatel Xamax FC having signed a three-year contract which comes into effect on 1 January. "Xamax's current sporting director has first-class tactical and educational abilities and has experience in top-level football as well as with junior teams."

Coaching experience
Zaugg served as the assistant coach to the Swiss national team for a number of years, working under Ulli Stielike, Roy Hodgson, Artur Jorge and Gilbert Gress and helping his country reach the 1994 FIFA World Cup finals and EURO '96T before taking charge himself in 1999 and 2000. At club level, Zaugg has worked for Super League sides Grasshopper-Club, Young Boys and FC Luzern and was voted Switzerland's coach of the year in 2001.
