A hat-trick from Alexander Kerzhakov delivers Russia a confident victory
over Andorra.
Three goals from Sevilla striker Alexander Kerzhakov and a final blow
from Dmitri Sychev gave Russia three points in the clash over Andorra.
However, the point-gain changed little in the Euro-2008 qualifying round
standings as Croatia beat narrowly Estonia 1:0 and Israel overcame Macedonia
2:1.
Russia with 14 points share the second place with Israel, two points behind
the leading Croatia and at a three-point distance from the following England.
Though Russian supporters attached little importance to Andorra clash
and think it is too early to draw conclusions one couldn't but enjoy the
marvellous display of Alexander Kerzhakov.
The man of the match spoke to Sport Express after the clash.
"I owe the goals I scored to the whole team," said Alexander
Kerzhakov.
"We were well prepared for the game and showed good football throughout
the clash."
"As for our opponents Andorra, they played the way we expected them
to: in defense mostly."
"The atmosphere here in Saint Petersburg is wonderful and our fans
helped us a lot."
"I don't feel like comparing my present feelings to the feelings
I had when playing here for Zenit."
"Those days are gone for me."
"We have to face Croatia soon and the clash can prove crucial for
the final standings."
"So each and every member of the team understands that Andorra is
a piece of cake in comparison with Croatia."
