UEFA EURO 2008T mascots Trix and Flix were among the star
guests at Innsbruck's traditional Bergsonnwendfest, which marks the start
of summer and the longest day of the year.
Dramatic reminder
Trix and Flix made their contribution to the celebrations in downtown
Innsbruck on Monday and there was another dramatic reminder of the football
festival to come as a burning UEFA EURO 2008T logo was lit up in the Karwendel
mountains. Mayor Hilde Zach addressed visitors from the city's iconic
Golden Roof at midnight, saying: "UEFA EURO 2008T will remain a positive
memory for a long time - just like the 1964 and 1976 Olympic Games. All
of us are looking forward to a festival which will put Innsbruck residents
at the heart of the UEFA European Championship as the best hosts."
At exactly 20 minutes and 08 seconds after midnight, 350 UEFA EURO 2008T
beach balls fell on to Bergsonnwendfest revelers from the city's tower.
