The European champions Greece will look forward to defend
their title in Austria and Switzerland after being drawn in Group D alongside
Sweden, Spain and Russia.
"First of all we are glad we reached the European championship play-offs
that would boost our players for progress", said Russian team manager
Guus Hiddink to Sport Express.
"I am desperate to see that Russian internationals are competitive
in Austria and Switzerland next June."
"Nobody expects us to qualify for the knockout round, but at the
same time nobody could prevent us from giving our best to disprove this
supposition."
"Russia were drawn against strong teams, but I am satisfied with
results of the draw and I am hopeful the team will represent the whole
country in a worthy manner."
"I didn't care much which teams would be our competitors in our group
since we need to try ourselves against top level sides."
