The diminutive midfielder explained to UEFA.com that his
wife and daughter are ill, necessitating his withdrawl from the Euro 2008
warm-up squad.
He said, "I've spoken to coach Guus Hiddink and he understood my
decision.
"I really wanted to play in Bucharest, as I haven't played for the
national team in 18 months. Still, I hope to make the squad for UEFA Euro
2008."
The Sporting Lisbon international will thus remain in the Portuguese capital,
where he plays for Sporting Lisbon, with Hiddink feeling that there is
neither the time nor the need to call up a replacement.
Izmailov won the first of his caps in 2002. He has scored two goals for
his country.
The 25-year-old signed on at Sporting this summer after leaving boyhood
club Lokomotiv Moscow on a loan dela.
