According to KickOffGhana, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has
terminated head coach Claude LeRoy's contract.
LeRoy: Without a job (football365.co.za)
LeRoy's deal was due to end on June 30, but the GFA offered
him new two-year deal which would see him lead the Black Stars to the
2010 World Cup in South Africa.
However, the GFA stated the Frenchman was unwilling to extend his stay
for personal reasons and will end his tenure on May 30.
The shocking news means Ghana will have to replace LeRoy as soon as possible
as the World Cup qualifiers begins on June 1.
The 60-year-old was appointed Ghana coach in September 2006 from a list
of 51 applicants and his sole purpose was to win AFCON on home soil.
He guided the side to a semi-final berth but with every defeat, including
a 5-0 loss to Saudi Arabia, LeRoy's popularity waned.
Despite the public's criticisms, both parties spoke of an extension until
news emerged linking LeRoy to the South Africa and Ivory Coast jobs.
The GFA's failure to support and protect LeRoy from those rumours may
have swayed his decision to step down as national boss.
