Zenit St. Petersburg leader Andrei Arshavin demonstrated
his best qualities to lead Russian team to Euro-2008 semifinals.
"Frankly speaking I didn't expect this turn of events in the match
against Holland", said Arshavin to Sport Express.
"Though several players were sure that Russia would ease to the semifinals.
Vladimir Bystrov, for example, said we would crush the Dutch champs 3-0."
"As for me, I had expected it would be a tough game and we would
need to play on counterattacks."
"I didn't think we would create so many scoring opportunities."
"When we opened the score, we simplified the game, gave the initiative
to Holland and finally let them fire in an equalizer."
"UEFA voted me the best player in our matches against Sweden and
Holland, but I don't pay much attention to it."
"The whole team played their best in these games."
