The Russian winning coach Guus Hiddink spoke to Sport Express
about his views on the national team's progress.
"When I came to the Russian side, I didn't believe we would play
like in our Euro quarterfinal against Holland", said Hiddink.
"I expected that there would be such episodes, however I couldn't
imagine that Russia would hold control of the game against one of European
football grands and play to give pleasure to themselves and our supporters."
"Ahead of our pre-tournament preparations we had up-and-down campaign."
"Players have been training and playing together during a month already,
however I didn't expect their progress would be so impetuous."
"When players are capped to the national team squad, they should
be proud of it."
"To my mind they fight for their own honor and get pleasure from
playing football."
"It's impossible to achieve success without getting pleasure from
what you are doing."
