Russian squeezed past Holland in extra time to reach Euro-2008
semifinals, while their Group D competitors Spain won the spot in penalty
series.
Russian goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev is eager to avenge Russia's frustrating
loss from Spain in group opening game as the two teams will cross their
swords tonight in effort to reach the peak.
"We have no time to analyze our journey, as games go one after another
and we should focus only on the coming encounter", said Akinfeev
to Sport Express.
"Russian made a giant step forward and I suppose psychological aspect
is the main reason for our progress."
"Our head coach persuades us that we can play football and can beat
any team regardless their status of favorites."
"Spain beat us in the opener and we are the only ones to be blamed
for that loss."
"It's up to the manager to introduce changes in the team line-up
and tactics, so I think Guus Hiddink will explain everything to us during
our preparations."
"Each of us perfectly understands what he needs to do and we are
set to stick to the coach's plan for the match."
"We have already forgotten our loss to Spain, since the coming game
will have nothing in common with our previous clash."
"Russian team proved that we can play football, that is very important
for the whole country."
"It was our reply for those people who didn't believe in their national
team."
