Russian forward Pavel Pogrebnyak recognizes his injury as accidental.
Zenit St. Petersburg striker Pavel Pogrebnyak slipped from
Euro-2008 campaign after suffering an injury, which kept him out of action.
"Many people think that I got injured after a set-piece in a game
against Serbia, but that's true", said Pogrebnyak to Sport Express.
"This injury occurred when I was running across the flank with the
ball and suddenly felt pain in my knee."
"I decided there was no serious about it, however pain forced me
to ask for a substitution."
"It was an accident and nobody is insured from it."
"I felt much worse when we were getting prepared fro the European
championship, and finally the national team coaches and me decided that
I should withdraw from the tournament."
"I said that I needed a medical surgery and asked coaches to let
me stay with the team after that, however they refused to give me such
an opportunity."
"I didn't expect such a turn of events so naturally I was disappointed."
"I am glad that Russian team topsy-turn their game after a crushing
defeat from Spain in the opener and demonstrated marvelous football."
