One of the world's best coaches Luiz Felipe Scolari spoke
to Sport Express after the UEFA Elite Coaches Forum and expressed his
vision on the Russian side.
"First of all let me say a few words about Guus Hiddink," started
Scolari. "I think he is an outstanding man and a brilliant coach.
Results of his teams speak for themselves."
"I suppose that Russian people have a full idea of Hiddink's professional
skills. Russian team changed to better side, and it's evident this progress
is not only head coach's merit. Many people should contribute to the team's
success."
"I don't know the situation in details, but I see what is going on
- CSKA clinched the UEFA Cup title and Zenit repeated this success three
years later, the national team shows high-level football at the Euro-2008.
And finally Zenit collected another trophy by beating Manchester United
in the UEFA Super Cup in Monaco."
"To my mind Russian team goes among the leading nations of the continent.
I liked football they demonstrated at Euro. The main thing is not to stop
at this achievement, players shouldn't think they reached the peak of
their career and that they can rest on their laurels."
"By the way I had a chance to head the Russian national team, but
I wouldn't like to tell this story in details - I have never liked to
argue about what hasn't happened."
"At the same time I don't except a possibility I would come to Russia
some day. It's very interesting for me in this country, moreover I have
friends here who can help me in case of emergency. I know Valeri Gazzaev,
I think he is a highly skilled specialist."
"I am very glad Russian team made such a visible progress and I wish
them only luck on road to the World Cup."
