"We tried very hard," said the scorer Joe Ledley.
"We did our best but the Russians have an excellent team and at the
end they leaned us on. The unscored penalty affected the result. In the
game with Azerbaijan we have also failed to score a penalty but nevertheless
we have won. We have not had such an opportunity in Moscow."
"At the same time both penalties were fair. There can be no complaints
about the team's self-denial, but we have to draw a moral from this game
to secure chances of getting out of the group. We will try to have revenge
in Cardiff."
"According to the game we showed in the second half we deserved the
draw," said Sam Vokes. "I wish we had scored this penalty. After
the game the head coach John Toshack was very disappointed but said that
we must play better in the future. In the nearest match with Lichtenstein
we are to get three points."
"In the second half we demonstrated a good football," said the
Welsh captain Simon Davies. "I wish we had one point. After our goal
the Russians speeded up and we failed to cope with that pressure. I am
optimistic about the future and think that our chances in the group are
not that hopeless. After all we have three points after the victory over
Azerbaijan."
"This unlucky penalty had negative effect on us, but the game could
have folded the opposite way, summed up the defender Sam Ricketts. Though
in the second half we came to and scored a beautiful goal. And we could
even snatch the victory but the Russians did it for us. The hosts showed
modern combinational football, and I would pick up their goalie, he played
amazingly."
