BECKENBAUER: YOU SHOULD RESPECT OPPONENTS NOT FEAR THEM
The Sport Express correspondent met with a famous German football player
and coach and now President of Bayern Munich, Franz Beckenbauer.
Beckenbauer refuted the rumors that the forward of Zenit
and the national team, Andrei Arshavin, is going to replace Lukas Podolski
in Bayern who is allegedly going to another club.
"Rumors are not real fact," said Franz. "People can talk
even without reasons. As far as I know the club is filled up. But for
example during the winter break we will have some injured players and
will need a new one. But on the other hand, I really doubt that Arshavin
is keen on going to Munich. In St. Petersburg he gets much money and here
in Bayern we won't be able to offer him such a sum."
"You should not be afraid of any opponent. You should respect them
- especially if the opponents are Germans. Russians should know our mind
very well, we are fighting till the end. So my advice is not to underestimate
us."
"After the match between Russia and Wales we understood that Germany
and Russia would fight for getting out of the group. And already in October
we will understand whose team is better. In Dorthsmouth we will have an
advantage, as we are playing at home."
"It is difficult for Loew now, as generations are changing and many
experienced players are going away. For example Sneider, or Frings. And
Ballack as well is very susceptible to injures."
