Pavlyuchenko Shocked By Spurs Training!
Russian forward Roman Pavlyuchenko has admitted that he is surprised
at the arduous training regime at Tottenham Hotspur and stated that he
has never experienced anything like the intensity in his career up to
now...

Pavlyuchenko joined the Premier League strugglers on transfer
deadline day in a deal worth over £13.7million from Spartak Moscow
in Russia, where the season was already over six months old.
He also featured in his country's Euro 2008 campaign before resuming domestic
duty, so can be forgiven for appearing jaded so far in his Tottenham career.
He has yet to get off the mark for his new club, and was replaced at half-time
in his last outing against Wigan Athletic on Sunday.
However, the 26 year-old is shocked by the intensity with which his new
club trains, and insists that the training techniques deployed in the
Premier League are a world away from those used in Russia.
He is quoted thus in the Daily Telegraph: 'In England they have a different
system of training.
'Right now the games are on Wednesday, Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday. The
training is like this - those who played get to recover, and the rest
do light training with the ball. It's not that tough.
'But when there is a week's gap between games, training is serious. I
barely survived it when I'd just arrived.
'I looked at my watch and saw that the training session had gone on for
exactly two hours! Then another half an hour in the gym! Two-and-a-half
hours! Can you imagine that?
'I trained like never in my life before, I swear! The weights started
to get to me, and I stopped and said to the trainer, 'I can't do this'.
That's how they work - I'm shocked. I thought it would be a lot easier.'
Pavlyuchenko is likely to sit-out this evening's Carling Cup fixture against
Newcastle United as Juande Ramos hopes to minimise the effects of a continuous
summer of football on the Russian.
The Spurs manager had previously stated that he did not have the requisite
manpower up front to allow his strikers a breather, but may renege on
that statement tonight.
Ramos said: "You have to remember Roman has had a long old season.
He may need a bit of a rest here and there before we see the best of him
and if that's the case we will take that.
"But I have seen enough of him, both in training and in flashes in
games, to suggest he is going to be a fantastic player for Tottenham."
While taking his time to adjust to the ferocity and pace of the English
game, Pavlychenko admits to being already captivated by the atmosphere
generated in Premier League grounds.
He continued: 'White Hart lane is crazy! I don't even know how to describe
it.
'You go out for a game and you get goose bumps. The field is like a snooker
table - it's super! The fans sing, yell, and stand up and applaud. They
don't even need goals.
"Running, battling for the ball; that's what the English love.'
