Murambadoro looking beyond 2010 World Cup
ZIMBABWE goalkeeper Energy Murambadoro is looking beyond the 2010 World
Cup soccer finals as his country do not look set to make it to South Africa
for the quadrennial tournament.
"There is a very slim chance we'll make it to the 2010 World Cup,"
he sighed.
"We are third in our group and also I don't get the rules concerning
the
best eight finishers, it's quite complicated."
Zimbabwe are third in their group with six points, two behind Guinea and
four behind leaders Kenya.
They play whipping boys Namibia in the last group stage game and even
if they win, they have to rely on other results to get through to the
next round.
"It's not in our hands anymore.
"I have not given up as there is hope, but the reality of it (qualifying)
is not good.
"I would have loved for us to play in the World Cup. It's the first
African World Cup and I can tell you all African players are excited about
it.
"They all want to be a part of it," said Murambadoro.
At the age of 26 the Bidvest Wits keeper is aiming to take Zimbabwe to
the
next World Cup in 2014 to be hosted by Brazil.
"I'll be more mature then, and better.
"I am learning a lot from Roger (De Sa, Wits coach) and the goalkeeper-trainers
at Wits so I am improving.
"My dream is to one day lead my country in a World Cup. 2014 for
me is the
next one and I will work hard to be a part of it.
"It's a pity it could not happen in 2010 as that would have been
very good for us.
"But whatever happens in 2010 I am sure it will affect us and I really
wish that an African team wins.
"It does not matter who just as long as the World Cup stays in Africa."
