Germany and World Cup 2010
by Erik Krueger
Thrills, heart-breaking losses, and skills. These words and more describe
the men's Germany National Football team.
In 2010, the World Cup, considered the Bowl Season of soccer, will kickoff
in South Africa. Many teams will qualify, including the favorites, like
France, Brazil, Spain, Netherlands, and others, but only one team will
have all the glory, composure, and prestige, and this time it will be
Germany.
Often overlooked, Germany has depth and talent dispersed throughout their
roster starting with No. 13 Michael Ballack, the center midfielder and
captain. He has led Germany to the finals in Euro Cup 2008 and the Semis
in 2006 in the World Cup, which was held in Germany. He has the experience
to lead this team to victory, but he'll need help.
Up top is the Polish-born native Lukas Podolski and on Ballack's right
in midfield is Torsten Frings. Both are very talented and see the whole
field. All three players are extremely cognizant, whether or not they
possess the ball or not, as well as the rest of the team.
This team is also backed by a pretty imposing threat, the keeper, Jens
Lehman. Lehman has great hands and range being 6'4.
Germany, in 2010, will prevail and will be relentless, unlike when they
lost to Italy 2-0 in the semis in 2006. They will outlast the competition,
beat some underrated wild-cards like Nigeria, and maintain their composure
throughout to hoist the most prized trophy in all of soccer.
