YAKUNIN: LOKO IS THE RUSSIAN RAILWAYS ICON

The Russian Railways President Vladimir Yakunin expressed
his point of view to the current state of things in Lokomotiv. Many specialists
foresaw a high place for the Moscow club ahead of Premier League season,
however the team failed to meet the expectations for the second consecutive
year.
"Lokomotiv is an icon of the Russian Railways, and they are responsible
for this result", Yakunin told Sport Express. "I can hardly
repeat my words at the last meeting with players and club's managers.
Players are very susceptible to supporters' reaction and assessment of
their work. We will continue fulfilling our duties, but we have one condition.
It's professional sport, and we have a right to demand high results from
them".
"The head coach's role is decisive one, and we give his all necessary
conditions to work with the team. The club bosses think that head coach
works very hard and we are sure that his efforts on selection policy and
motivation of players should bring positive results".
"However Rashid Rakhimov joined Lokomotiv in a very tough period,
first of all in psychological aspect. We prefer to work with Russian specialists
and players, and we would be very glad if our coach will achieve high
results with our team".
"I am not a specialist in football, as I am only an amateur. But
to my personal point of view the number of foreign players in Russian
clubs and their poor performance puts in doubt selection policy of the
teams".
"I keep in contact with Lokomotiv bosses, head coach and supporters.
when I visit Loko matches I hear opinions of many people, who support
their favorite team".
