Rich Mkhondo was on Friday named as the replacement for
Tim Modise as Chief Communications Officer of the Local Organising Committee
for the 2010 World Cup.
Mkhondo began his journalistic career with the Rand Daily Mail in 1984
and was the deputy editor of the Pretoria News and The Citizen before
filling senior positions with South African Airways, Discovery and Ogilvy
Public Relations
He takes over as the head of the LOC's communications department after
a turbulent tenure by TV and radio personality Modise.
Mkhondo said: "It's something I relish and look forward to being
part of the biggest sporting event in the world."
"We are delighted to have Rich join the LOC team," added CEO
Danny Jordaan. "He is an outstanding journalist with extensive experience
and is well-equipped for the job."
Like Modise and many others appointed by the LOC, Mkhondo enters the World
Cup's deep end without working actively in football - making this the
greatest challenge of his career to date.
