"We had a good start in the Champions League this
year," said Gigli. "And in general we demonstrate not bad football
now. I admit that we lost to Inter in the national A series on Sunday
but the cub from Milan showed that evening really wonderful game. And
they were objectively stronger."
"And they game with Zenit turned predictably difficult. Zenit was
very up to the victory as only a win left them chances to continue the
competition for getting through to the next stage."
"But nevertheless the Juventus players played a good match despite
difficult conditions though that did not decide anything. I'd like to
thank my footballers for their character."
"On Saturday we are going to have a difficult game against Regina
[Juventus won - 4:0 - editor's note]. And it is good that in December
the team will have three-week holiday. I hope that the players will refresh
and get new strength so that after the break Juve will look better."
"I had not much opportunity to get to know the style of Zenit but
what I did see I liked. In the match for the UEFA Supercup against Manchester
United in Monaco Zenit showed quick and modern football. And the high
level of technical mastery. I was really surprised and impressed."
"I saw Zenit in action for the second time in Turin. And the Russian
team was in no way inferior to Juventus. We managed to win but if it had
not been for del Piero's goal the game could have ended quite the other
way round."
"The guests did not deserve defeat. But it is football where the
team wins that better make use of its chances."
"To tell the truth I was not at all surprised that the Russian national
team performed so well on Euro 2008. Your country's football is on the
rise at the moment. Of course you have less opportunities to play football
than Italians. The weather conditions are worse. But there are many enthusiastic
young businessmen ready to invest much money in football and that started
to bear fruit."
"I cannot exclude the possibility that there are will be Russian
players in Juventus. You have a lot of professionals we can be interested
in. but the Russians have one big disadvantage - they are too expensive.
And this purchases cost a pretty penny for the club."
