The voting results in November:
Roman Pavlyuchenko - 71 votes
Server Japarov - 43 votes
Marius Stankevicius - 29 votes
Marat Izmaylov - 25 votes
Alexei Berezutsky - 21 votes
Marko Devic - 19 votes
Vasily Berezutsky - 16 votes
Dmitry Khokhlov - 16 votes
"That is good news that I have won the title," said Roman. "You
have only eleven candidates in a year and it is very difficult to get
on the list."
"So this victory shows that I have advanced in my career. Though
last year I got this title twice and this year I had to move to England
to achieve it."
"I am ready to compete for the zvezda of the year. I can fight even
with number six in Europe [Andrei Arshavin became number six in Golden
Ball voting]. I want to congratulate Andrei with this achievement. Now
one can call him a great footballer."
"I would not mind to become great either but I have to work hard
still I have plans to win all possible trophies and tournaments."
"I am getting accustomed to the playing style in England. I have
worked hard and now feel quite comfortable. At first it was of course
a bit difficult and moreover the team was at the very bottom of the table.
Though I always believe that we would manage to improve."
"We play every three days but nobody complains about fatigue. I think
that constant playing is better than constant training."
"I am almost at home in England. My English is getting better and
I even understand some jokes."
"I remember that Spartak is coming to play Tottenham. I was upset
that my former teammates spoilt their standings having lost to NEC. That
means they will have to fight against us. At the moment Tottenham is more
important for me, but to tell the truth I wish that both teams get through
to the UEFA Cup round of 32."
