Juande Ramos might not have been Real Madrid coach for
24 hours yet, but already the rumours have started about who the former
Tottenham Hotspur manager will be signing this winter.
With Klaas-Jan Huntelaar already arriving it appears that Real Madrid
will be after a midfielder, and maybe more specifically a winger. However,
Zenit St. Petersburg coach, Dick Advocaat, gave clear signs to AS today
that they could be after Andrei Arshavin.
"I know that Juande Ramos has been a big fan of Arshavin for a long
time, since he coached Sevilla," declared Advocaat.
"He will be a great player because he always has been and at Real
Madrid he would be also."
Zenit take on Real Madrid this Wednesday in the final game of the Champions
League, and with many of the players likely to be moving on this winter,
Advocaat said it could well be a nice send-off.
"It is important to win in this competition. There are players who
will leave the team and go to other European clubs and so I believe it
will be a good chance to say goodbye," he mused.
The Dutchman was also questioned the dismissal of Bernd Schuster, and
sounded as surprised as anyone.
"It is difficult to know what happened and we will play our game
independently of how they play," he said.
"In my opinion Real Madrid were champions last year and they are
already qualified for the quarter-finals in Europe. Evidently, although
it is difficult to know what goes on inside, something will change with
the new coach. The prize is obtained, not at the beginning though."
Advocaat then went on to praise the first winter signing made by Real
Madrid, Huntelaar, saying that his compatriot is a good player.
"He is a scorer. Capable of getting as many with his head as with
his feet. He is ruthless and clinical," he opined.
