Despite Spartak's eighth place in the final standings, this
season was very successful for the 19-year-old striker. Alexandr Prudnikov
managed not only to establish in his club's starting eleven and play for
the Russian junior team, he was lucky to be called up by the Russian national
team coaching staff. The attacker has also been voted as one of the best
junior players by Sport Express experts.
"Frankly speaking, I didn't expect something like that", said
Prudnikov. "If we consider Spartak;s final place in the table, this
season could be said to be a failure for me".
"This season was a real disaster for Spartak. But I should confess
that we lacked stability since the first matches. Even when we were going
on the second position, we didn't show stable results, and I can't explain
why".
"For me this season was more successful, as I got the first call-up
to the national team. At the same time the youth teams where I performed
failed to attain some serious results".
"Moreover at the beginning of he season, I had some problems with
playing practice. At that moment I felt I was at my peak form, but Stanislav
Cherchesov didn't give me a chance to prove my worth. I was happy that
I could perform for the youth team and Spartak reserve side".
"But in the second half of the championship the situation has changed.
I want to thank Michael Laudrup, as he gave me a chance to establish in
the first team".
"I am eager to stay in the club for the next season. And if the team
acquires a new striker, I will have an opportunity to prove that I am
stronger. I am hopeful that there will be a place for me in Michael Laudrup's
new team".
