FIFA reassures South Africa as World Cup host
Sepp Blatter, FIFA president, has stated officially that South Africa
is to be the host for the 2010 World Cup and no alternative plans have
been made.
Blatter spoke to reporters in Japan, explaining that the country will
be prepared for the tournament. The Guardian reports that Blatter has
always wanted the World Cup to take place in Africa.
The stadiums and infrastructures in South Africa have been a cause for
concern for some organizers. Danny Jordaan, chief organizer for the country,
is certain that the stadiums will be complete and that transportation
will be in place.
Jordaan also explained that public safety will be granted to visitors
in and out of the stadiums. An additional 41,000 police officers, surveillance
cameras, and helicopters will be added to the forces during the event
and the government plans to contribute around EUR 100 million to security
improvements on World Cup facilities.
