ARSHAVIN WINS ZVEZDA AWARD-2008
Andrei Arshavin won Sport Express Zvezda award-2008 to become the best
player of Russia and the CIS countries for the second consecutive year.

Zenit St. Petersburg forward Andrei Arshavin has been voted
the best player of the season by journalists from 15 countries. Russian
star striker receives this award for the second consecutive season. Arshavin
earned 207 points to leave behind Yuri Zhirkov (117 points) and Anatoly
Tymoschuk (102 points).
"Winning Zvezda award is a big honour for me, as I will always remember
these tough seasons", said Arshavin. "To be honest there are
two main challengers for this award - Yuri Zhirkov and me. I looked more
successful in the international competitions, while Zhirkov showed fantastic
display in the Russian championship".
"Andrei Shevchenko also won Zvezda award twice, but this player is
more significance figure for the world football and he won more trophies
than me.
"If to name three most important events in my life, which happened
this season, no doubt the most significant one of birth of my daughter.
Surely such moments are the best one in life of all people".
"Speaking about football career, I would lay special attention to
my feeling after match against Holland at Euro-2008. Playing for your
national team or for your club are two different things, because achievements
in the national side are always more significant".
"Many Zenit players are said to take leave of the club in winter,
but I wouldn't like anybody to quit us, because we feel comfortable with
each other. I wouldn't say that we are superfriendly team, but we have
no problems with working together. And we need to thank Dick Advocaat
for it".
"Today all players have different interests, someone wants to quit
and someone wants to extend the contract. When everything is settled down,
situation in the team will become calmer. But I repeat that current state
of things in Zenit is good".
