Nigeria: Amodu Can't Take Eagles to World Cup - Sam
Jaja
By Suelimen Osasuyi
Abuja - Following the dismal performance of the senior national team,
the Super Eagles against the Reggae Boys of Jamaica on February 11, international
friendly match in London, many Nigerians are beginning to express concern
on the tactical abilities of coach Amodu Shaibu to qualify Nigeria for
the World Cup and also lead the team to South Africa. Former NFA board
member, Dr. Sam Sam Jaja said at the weekend that the present boys in
the Eagles squad and the coach cannot take Nigeria to the World Cup.
"You saw what they played against a lowly rated Jamaica team. There
was no attack the midfield was non existent and a trailer can pass the
defence without any stoppage. We expected Amodu to use the friendly match
to try out new players but that was not to be. Amodu still stuck to those
boys that could not hold the ball for two minutes. We don't have coaches
for the World Cup. Amodu will take us no where. Nigeria should better
look for a grade A foreign coach. The earlier we do that the better. Otherwise,
we may be disgraced at the World Cup."
Sam Jaja who represented the Nigeria Referees Association in the NFA said
the modern game of football have gone pass trial and error."We are
in the era of computer. How many of our coaches are computer literate.
Even the football computer games children use to play, how many of our
coaches can read the games and understand it. The way computer games are
now is how football is.
Amodu is good, but not to the extent of taking Nigeria to the World Cup.
It will be very unfortunate if Nigeria does not qualify to play on our
own soil, South Africa. With the level Amodu and the team are going, considering
the two international friendly he has played we may not qualify for the
World Cup.Nigeria should begin to look for a grade one foreign coach,
but not the type of Berti Vogts because he was never a coach.
