Reacting to Russia boss Guus Hiddink and his Chelsea adventure,
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has opined that managers cannot hold down
dual positions with clubs and national teams at the same time.
However, Wenger does expect the wily Dutchman to cope in the short term
and, of course, Hiddink is only contracted until the summer.
Russia will take on Azerbaijan and Liechtenstein in World Cup qualifying
during the next international break but Wenger insists that such a scenario
wouldn't be sustainable for any great length of time.
"It is impossible to take on a club and country role permanently,
but in the short term he can do it," Wenger told The Guardian.
"Russia have only two minor games to deal with in the international
break, yes, but long term it's not realistic.
"It's a special situation with Hiddink because of his close connections
with [Chelsea supremo Roman] Abramovich.
"I rate Guus highly, although you know with Chelsea what to expect:
one super manager to leave and another to come in."
The previous Stamford Bridge gaffer was Luiz Felipe Scolari, who won't
be feeling particularly 'super' at the moment.
