FIFA embark on stadia inspection
A FIFA delegation begins a tour of South Africa on Tuesday to evaluate
the country's readiness for the 2009 Confederations Cup.
The tournament gets underway in just under four months and world football's
governing body will visit the four host venues as well as Soccer City,
the venue for the 2010 World Cup final.
The FIFA representatives are set to inspect Ellis Park on Tuesday followed
by visits to Loftus Stadium, Royal Bafokeng Stadium and the Free State
Stadium later this week. They are scheduled to conclude the tour at Soccer
City on Sunday.
Ellis Park hosts one Confederations Cup semi-final as well as the decider
of the showpiece.
The stadium has been refurbished and Sibongile Mazibuko, Johannesburg's
World Cup director told the Sowetan he is happy with the upgrade.
"The stadium itself is now complete and the subcontractors will be
handing over at the end of the month."
