"In general we have fulfilled all the plans for the
season preparation," said the Brazilian specialist. "We have
no serious problems. All the players have fulfilled the tasks I set before
them and I am happy with the work done."
"And now we are waiting for official games to see how well we worked
during the training camps."
"There are both advantages and disadvantages in the fact that we
start directly from the European Cup."
"The Russian championship differs from European in the scheme of
running so in February we are invariably in disadvantage comparing to
Aston Villa for example."
"Though on the other hand games with such a strong opponent will
give a lot of information for further trainings."
"The UEFA Cup is very important both for the club and the players
that is why we hope to get over all the problems concerning lack of practice
with the help of our spirit and good physical conditions."
"We should not forget by the way that the rivalry with the English
club is to last not for ninety but for hundred and eighty minutes."
"The result of the first match is very important but only the second
game will determine the winner. If only there won't be in Birmingham a
score like 3:0 or 4:0 in favour of one side."
"But it should not happen by all appearances. So it is very good
that the return leg will be held at our home stadium, as it is much easier
to decide any tasks at home. Though it is very important to score in away
matches."
"Before I came to CSKA I studied their game carefully, watched more
than ten games. So I knew the play of the leaders rather well. But I was
rather surprised with the youth: Schennikov, Mamaev, Pomazan."
"And having worked for a month with them I am very optimistic. A
very good generation is growing up in CSKA. I am glad they pay much attention
to their future in the club."
"Perspectives of any player depend on him first of all. Every young
player will have a chance to show his powers in CSKA and to get in the
squad they must make use of this chance."
"To the fans of the club I can say that we worked hard and now we
need their support. If they are with the team in all situations we will
be able to cope with everything."
