Speaking to Chelsea TV, Didier Drogba voiced his appreciation
of the new lease of life Guus Hiddink has given him at Stamford. The Ivorian
was relegated to the bench during the reign of Luiz Felipe Scolari, the
Brazilian manager, who claimed that Drogba was incapable of playing up-front
with his preferred choice of Nicolas Anelka.
"The good thing is that I had the support of the players and people
like Ray Wilkins [during that time]," the striker said.
"I don't think I deserved what happened, but what it came down to
was the manager's choices."
Under the tutelage of Hiddink, Drogba feels that he has been given a second
chance to cement his name in the club's history.
"I really want to do something that people will make people remember
me here," he continued.
"I've said before I'm staying. I just really wanted to make it clear
again that I'm here.
"The best is yet to come."
German international Michael Ballack backed up Drogba's affection for
the new gaffer, admitting that he would be delighted to see the Dutchman
stay for the long haul.
"I would love for him to say he is staying for three years. Everybody
in and around the club can feel he is a great manager and even in a short
time he has had a big influence on the team," Ballack said.
Petr Cech, Chelsea's first-choice goalkeeper, added his own feelings on
Hiddink's appointment at the club.
"He is a very good coach and we want him to stay but it is a difficult
political situation and we will have to wait to see what happens,"
he said.
