The fate of Armymen will be determined tonight, as CSKA
will face Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk in UEFA Cup Round of 16
away fixture. Prior to the crunch game the team head coach Zico spoke
to Sport Express.
"Our home victory could be assessed differently", said Zico.
"On the one hand we have a minimal advantage over our rivals, but
on the other hand we will play away from the home stands. I won't make
any predictions, because I am not used to look into the future. The most
important thing is that we have chances for progress, and I hope CSKA
will manage to book a spot in UEFA Cup quarterfinal draw".
"The only thing I know for sure is that if we score at least one
goal we will go through. We should be attentive, but anyway players need
to be targeted on the opponents' goal".
"In our away clash with Aston Villa Englishmen tried to press us,
but CSKA answered them with quick counterattacks. It's a big question
if we will play in the same manner in Donetsk tonight".
"Yuri Zhirkov will be sidelined through suspension, and Caner is
called to replace him. I trust this player and I hope his will meet my
expectations and use his chance today".
"Semberas and Mamaev will play in the center of our midfield, while
Vagner Love and Alan Dzagoev will help them in attack".
"Brazilian striker didn't participate in Sunday match with Saturn,
however he has been training with his partners. He is perfectly fit for
tonight match".
"Evgeny Aldonin and Daniel Carvalho will stay on the bench. Aldonin
is all right now and he can enter the match as a substitution. The same
thing concerns Carvalho, who had some problems after Sunday fixture against
Saturn".
"Today we can't count on services of Rahimic, Ramon and Ricardo Jesus".
"Shakhtar is a dangerous club. I like philosophy of the Ukrainian
team, which has many players who like playing offensive football."
"I won't hide that the first 25-30 of our home match were rather
hard for us, as Shakhtar took the initiative. Later we managed to topsy-turn
the game, though it was a real challenge until the final whistle. It's
wonderful that we left our goal untouched".
"As we had expected foreigners play the key role in Shakhtar. At
the same time the team is well-organized and always try to impose their
game on the opponent".
