Polish FA: no doubt Ukraine can co-host Euro 2012
The head of the Polish Football Federation has no doubt that Ukraine
will be able to co-host the 2012 European Championship with Poland.
"It's 100 percent certain that Euro 2012 is going to take place in
Poland and Ukraine," Grzegorz Lato said Thursday.
UEFA awarded the two eastern European countries the rights to stage European
football's showcase tournament in April 2007, despite concerns they would
not be able to build the necessary roads, airports, stadiums and hotels.
After initial struggles, both countries put their preparations back on
track late last year, before Ukraine was hit hard by the world financial
crisis which renewed concerns over Kiev's ability to make the massive
infrastructure upgrades.
That has fueled further speculation that other countries, such as Germany,
could replace Ukraine as co-host with Poland. But Lato flatly rejected
that prospect Thursday, saying: "That is not an option."
