The head coach of the Russian national team Guus Hiddink
talked about the coming World Cup-2010 qualifiers against Azerbaijan and
Lichtenstein.
Before he started to talk about his current affairs - about the national
team and Chelsea, Azerbaijan and Arshavin - Hiddink decided to express
his condolences to the Sport Express office for last Saturday the editor-in-chief
Vladimir Kuchmiy deceased.
"I know about your grief and sorrow with you," said Hiddink.
"I had no opportunity to talk to your editor-in-chief personally
and as far as I understand he gave all his attention to the office. And
that indicates his highest professionalism."
"When you are a big boss you always tempt to go out and the fact
that he did not appear in this glamorous world of parties and television
shows full commitment to his work."
"I respect the man who himself established a serious sports newspaper
and have not let it hunt cheap sensations all these years."
"Let's change the topic. I don't regard Azerbaijan as a football
'dwarf' that Russia must win by all means. And the game of Azerbaijan
against Finland is good evidence."
"In this match Azerbaijani were well disciplined and Finns had many
problems in organizing the game and achieving the result."
"Moreover Azerbaijan has an authoritative coach who has an experience
of winning gold of the Euro Cup. Bertie Vogts knows it very well how to
play the matches of the highest international level."
"He has gathered a team of technic players so we should not think
that it would be just 'another game'. There won't be result for granted
and to achieve it we should do right things. And if did not these ninety
minutes would be very difficult."
"I have no right to judge why Vogts failed to do anything with the
Scottish national team after the triumph with the Bundesteam for I do
not know the case. Probably the matter is that not in every generation
in every country can bring up a group of talented masters able to play
on the highest level."
"Or probably he faced a specific football culture and decided to
change it but failed because of misunderstanding or something. But I communicated
with this man for many times and I know how Vogts is committed to football."
"When you are to play with a team of such a specialist you must be
100% ready for everything."
