The meeting with the head coach of the German national team
Joachim Loew came as a real surprise for the Sport Express correspondent,
as it has been organized by our colleagues from the European Sport Magazines
association journalists from the Turkish sports newspaper Fanatik. The
talk mainly concerned the World Championship-2010 qualifying round, as
Germany has been pitted against Russian side in one group.
"Russia will play the next qualifier against Finland in Helsinski,
where Germany has already lost points", said Loew. "Finnish
team is motivated to advance to the final stage of this prestigious tournament".
"As you remember they were close to win the European championship
final stage berth, but they lacked just several points. Though the team
gained a valuable experience thanks to that failure".
"Finnish team has many players, who play in strong foreign championships.
And what is most important is their organization. No matter where they
play at home or away and which playing scheme they use they always have
firm defence and control the game skillfully".
"In Helsinki they will be supported by their fans, who can create
necessary atmosphere at the stadium".
"Current situation in the group is rather complicated and it's hard
to assess our perspectives. I think it's not necessary to explain the
reasons, because everybody knows that both German and Russians teams are
very strong. To my mind our head-to-head battle in Moscow will be decisive
in determining the group's winner".
"I value Russian team very high since Euro-2008, when I watched several
matches. Last year they produced indelible impression on me. They have
a lot of very talented players, for example Andrei Arshavin, but I can
lay special emphasize on almost all their players".
"Russia's head coach Guus Hiddink is very experienced and wise specialist,
whose coaching philosophy attracts me".
"It's impossible to ignore progress made by the Russian national
team and their clubs during past three or four years. From the point of
view of the World Championship qualifying campaign it is unlikely to make
us happy, because only one team from the group will squeeze to the final
tournament, while the second team will be determined in playoffs".
"Having outplayed Russia at home last year, we took advantage in
this race for the top place in the group, but our lead is not very big".
"It's hard to say what Germany needs to do in order to regain our
leading positions in the world football. To my mind Spain is an absolute
leader nowadays".
"Victory at the big competition is combined of many factors. Our
players turned to be not well physically prepared at the last year's European
championship, while physical preparation is very important when you need
to play six matches in three weeks".
