Former Chelsea temporary manager Hiddink, bidding to lead
Russia to next summer's World Cup finals, saw at close hand last season
the problems the striker faced at Spurs.
Pavlyuchenko struggled to maintain a regular first-team place and could
move this summer, with Roma and Stuttgart among the clubs showing interest.
Although he has vowed to prove himself at White Hart Lane, it seems his
national coach does not necessarily believe that trying to win over Spurs
manager Harry Redknapp is automatically the best choice.
Hiddink said: 'Pavlyuchenko should seriously think about his future. He
needs constant training and game time.'
Meanwhile, Spurs' interest in Newcastle central defender Sebastien Bassong
puts question marks over existing defenders Jonathan Woodgate, Michael
Dawson or Ledley King.
King's position remains complicated, with the England defender continually
troubled by a serious knee problem which prevents him from playing more
than once a week.
And towards the end of the last season the club captain was believed to
have been fined two weeks' wages by manager Harry Redknapp after he was
arrested outside a Soho night club.
Spurs are still hoping to sign Ashley Young, the Aston Villa winger, and
although Martin O'Neill is reluctant is lose the England Under-21 player,
he may give in if it means securing David Bentley.
Bentley is out of favour at Spurs and an exchange could suit both clubs.
