Chelsea applied to the Russian Football Union asking not
to cap Yuri Zhirkov for the friendly game against Argentina.
It turned out that player has problems with his knee-joint and he won't
be able to play on Wednesday. Having received this information coaches
of the national team decided not to distract player from rehabilitation
process. Chelsea doctors are sure that halfback will be able to help Russian
side in World Cup qualifiers in September.
"I felt pain in my knee after the game with Milan during our American
journey", said Zhirkov. "Problems with knee occurred after our
match with Finland but they were not very serious then".
"It's a big pity that I don't train and that I won't take part in
the friendly game with Argentina in Moscow however my knee stills aches
and terms of my rehabilitation are still unclear".
"Yesterday I attended my club's match in the Super Cup and touched
the trophy. I hope that I will be able to resume trainings soon".
