Zenit played their fourth consecutive Premier League match
without victory on Sunday as they suffered a 0-2 home loss to FC Tom.
Zenit is now only the seventh in the standings with six wins in 17 games
and they are ten points behind leaders Rubin Kazan.
Following Sunday match the club management and board of directors decided
to relieve head coach Dick Advocaat from his duties. The Dutchman announced
that he would step down at the end of the season to take on Belgian national
team and he will have to do it beforehand.
Reserve team head coach Anatoly Davydov has been appointed as a temporary
coach to prepare the team for Europa League clash against Portuguese side
FC Nacional on August 20.
Yesterday Zenit team director Vladislav Radimov, who entered temporary
coaching staff, expressed his points on view on Advocaat's dismissal.
"I got an offer from the caretaker Anatoly Davydov to join Zenit
coaching staff", said Radimov to Sport Express. "I discussed
it with Maxim Mitrofanov and he gave his consent".
"I will work as a coach since Tuesday and at the same time I will
perform duties of the team director. I always respected Davydov and I
couldn't but agreed to work with him".
"It will be perfect coaching practice for me, but to be honest I
don't imagine myself as a coach now".
I wouldn't say that news about Advocaat's dismissal was a surprise for
me because our recent results and atmosphere around the team was coming
to it.
"Davydov called me at night and told me about the Dutchman's dismissal.
He also said that he had been appointed the caretaker and asked me to
come to the training base earlier. When I came to Udelnaya they offered
me to enter the coaching staff".
"Anyway my work is unlikely to change considerably because earlier
I took part in the team's trainings though I was not a coach".
"Despite I lost a place in the roster under the reigns of Advocaat
I have nothing to complain. I collected most prestigious trophies with
this coach even despite I didn't play in the UEFA Cup final match".
"I stayed in the team after my retirement as a player and I saw the
game from the other side. His coaching school helped me a lot".
