Argentinean players landed in Moscow airport at 18-30 MSK
and headed to the stadium right after their arrival. As it has been expected
the training session at the Eduard Streltsov stadium was light and lasted
for little more than one hour.
Meanwhile Russian national side players also started preparations for
friendly international with one of the strongest teams in the world. The
head coach Guus Hiddink visited training session of Russian women team
in the morning.
"I am very happy to see players again", said Hiddink on his
return to the hotel. "Zhirkov won't help us on Wednesday but I won't
cap someone else as a replacement. We will play only one match and I have
enough players to choose from".
Vitaly Mutko was one of those people who visited Russia's training session
yesterday.
"I am glad to meet players", said Minister of Sport. "I
came to see the training session, talk with players and coaches and feel
the atmosphere in the team. I won't have enough time to do it later because
I will go to Sochi".
"Our contract with the Argentinean team envisages that their roster
will be close to their strongest squad however we cannot impose our desire
on Maradona".
"I won't take risk and try to guess result of our match against Liechtenstein.
I can say only that Russia always plays successfully in St. Petersburg".
After the trainings players looked tired but cheerful. Igor Semshov agreed
to give an interview and asked not to talk about current situation in
Zenit.
"Our main task is preparation fro the World Cup qualifiers and the
last match ahead of them will take place on Wednesday", said Semshov.
"I cannot answer for my teammates but it's very important for me
to win this friendly clash. Absence of Zhirkov and Bystrov is a big loss
of course and it's necessary to have full bench of first-choice players
for qualifying games".
"I think that Wednesday match will be entertaining for players and
supporters", said Alexandr Kerzhakov. "We want to show our strength
and prove that Russia overcomes Argentina in the rankings not by accident".
"Argentina's position in the group standings is much better and this
match is not very suitable. Several their key players won't participate
in Moscow match but Argentina is very strong anyway".
