Russian halfback Vladimir Bystrov fell back into shadow
last year because of injury and even missed training camp of the national
team in February. However he returned into full action and began playing
like he has never played before.
He pleased Spartak fans with beautiful assists and goals and it's not
surprising that he was awarded with an invitation from Guus Hiddink. Today
ahead of friendly international match with Argentina everybody is much
concerned with his slight injury.
"I didn't watch closely performance of other players in Russia and
CIS countries so I think that football experts assess our display better",
said Bystrov to Sport Express.
"On the other hand I think that nobody will deny that Spartak improved
results and quality of football in latest games. Players also made considerable
progress and I am not an exception".
"Of course change of head coach changed many things in the team.
Valery Karpin pays more attention to the atmosphere in the team, training
process and tactical exercises".
"And what is more important our results also changed. Spartak sealed
our most important victories after Michael Laudrup quitted the club and
every time we scored more than three goals".
"Laudrup didn't trust me much and I didn't see any sense in asking
him to explain his attitude to me face to face because we couldn't do
it without interpreter anyway. I tried not to think about something bad
and I just kept on working hard".
"The Danish coach is really very good specialist and he did everything
right but his work didn't bring any results. Maybe Spartak is not his
team".
"Maybe one of the reasons was language barrier. When Karpin asks
players to do something everybody understands him including our foreigners.
Laudrup worked with the help of interpreter and his requirements were
not always easy to understand".
"I won't hide that Russian national team coaches could invited me
to the squad for the qualifying match with Finland in June. Spartak was
on a high then and I also looked quite well".
"Both Russia and Argentina will be without several leaders but I
think that both teams have enough candidates for replacement. We still
have equal chances for victory".
