"This is my first arrival to the national team in a
new status," said Zhirkov. "Though I don't feel as a foreigner
here. I am just a person working abroad."
"I have been staying in London for a short period of time and actually
nothing has changed in Moscow ever since."
"But I missed my family very much. The wife told me that our son
started to crawl and I was afraid that I would not have a possibility
to see it."
"We are waiting for the documents to arrive so that they join me
in England."
"My knee still hurts. Of course it is much better than it used to
be two weeks ago. The last time I trained before going to the national
side was on Saturday."
"Then everything was quite good but at the end of the session I ran
into one of the footballers. And this bump was rather painful."
"And two weeks ago I could not train at all, actually I could not
step on my foot."
"I think that the problems were aggregating for some time and the
main reason for the injury is hard load."
"Andriy Shevchenko and Branislav Ivanovic helped me a lot about the
injury. And other players as well as the head coach Ancelotti."
"He said that I should keep my chin up and that I would definitely
help the team in the future. But I should only undergo all the treatment
so that to leave all problems behind."
"Shevchenko is a good man and a professional and he helped me very
much at the beginning when I was trying to get used to the new team."
"To tell the truth I got disappointed when Andriy left for Kyiv.
And Ivanovic also was not happy about this. They were friends with Shevchenko."
"My first day in Chelsea is absolutely different from what I experienced
in CSKA. That time I arrived in Moscow from Tambov being a youngster and
it was very hard, harder than now."
"At the moment I am a grown-up man, I got experience, played at the
highest level and in CSKA I became a confident man."
"I understand almost everything that is said to me but I can hardly
explain myself. Though I learnt to communicate with doctors already."
"Actually I have not started learning English seriously yet. The
club will provide me with a teacher and I will start learning properly."
"I have just visited my doctor and he said that in fact everything
is ok. We will see how the trainings proceed before the Saturday's match
against Liechtenstein."
"If everything is ok I want to play already on Saturday in St. Petersburg.
We need result and three more points."
