"I don't feel a hero of the match," said the forward
of Tottenham. "What can be heroic in scoring twice from the spot?"
"I think that on Saturday the whole team played in such a way that
it is not necessary to choose one hero. Everybody did his bit into a victory
that was not that easy as it could have seemed from outside."
"I knew that I was in the lineup the day before the match when at
the last training I received a vest of the starting eleven. Though I got
100% sure when Guus announced who was to start the match."
"Main thing is to enter the pitch and all other problems are secondary.
I feel ok, train permanently and don't have problems for I have little
playing practice."
"In the first half the game was quite easy but in the second something
clogged."
"And it has nothing to do with the fact that we tried to spare power
to the next match against Wales. Moreover we understood: the more goals
we score the better."
"It can be anything in the end. So we even had in mind the difference
of scored and conceded goals. And Hiddink called on us before the match
to use all the moments we have."
"I agree that there were not many opportunities in the second half
with the exception of Semshov's chance but in the first one we could have
scored a couple more goals."
"To tell the truth I have never before kicked the penalty twice in
a game not taking into account after-match series of course."
"And it had its own psychology. I decided at once that the second
penalty I would kick into the right corner. But the goalie placed himself
right at this side leaving the left part of the goal open."
"And in this moment I had a sneaking feeling to change my mind. But
I threw all scruples overboard and when I saw that the goalie was moving
the other way I had nothing to do but to convert the chance."
"After the second penalty I came to Kerzhakov and said that he would
kick the next one. But he refused saying that it is bad to violate the
coach's directive. So I must do it for I was announced main penalty shooter."
"And if there had been a third penalty (in the moment with Semshov
for example) I would shoot in the centre. Let it be diverse!"
"But still I am rather disappointed with my game for I made many
mistakes. And only these two penalties justify me. But what is important
is that we got three points and everything else is only details."
