"The most important thing in preparation to the match
against Wales is restoring," said the newcomer of the English Premier
League. "We must have fresh heads and understanding of the seriousness
of the moment."
"And I am sure we will have this understanding."
"Actually it happened so that the national team was preparing for
the match with Liechtenstein longer than to the match with Wales."
"But it makes no problem, for at the training sessions we create
our own game that we show in matches with any opponent. And the tactical
scheme does not usually change drastically depending on the rival. It
is just nuances of the schedule."
"But in St. Petersburg I ha no thoughts about the next game I was
fully absorbed in my new position - left defender."
"I understood it a day before the match that something unusual is
happening but I was eager to find out what I can on this position."
"I did not experience any new emotions for the opponent was not very
strong and they did not load me with defending work. And that is good
for I was always pulled ahead to join attack."
"At the first training after the match I also played left defender
but it does not mean anything. The squad is usually kept the same at trainings
immediately after matches."
"Of course there were some changes. As you understand Denisov won't
play in Cardiff, he's got suspension for a match because of yellow cards."
"One cannot say anything for sure about the positions. The coaches
will decide. If it is necessary I will play in defence once more."
"The coaches instructed me how to play a defender and help the attack
and after the match there were no claims. But still it was only Liechtenstein."
"In a match with a more aggressive rival defending skills will prevail
and I will have to endure their onsets."
"In the national team you should display well everywhere. It is very
important in the club. I only fear that if I play well on the position
of a defender - they can pose me at the back as well."
"And I don't want. I like it more in the front and feel more accustomed
as a midfielder. And they know it well in Everton."
"We have enough people to replace the injured men. We can do it almost
with no harm to the scheme and teamplay. But though of course the loss
of the best players is always painful."
"There are so many internationals in British football now that it
is difficult to speak about one British style. All the styles have long
ago blended into each other."
"And I would rather speak not about style but about British spirit.
And Wales is strong in this spirit."
