Lokomotiv defender Renat Yanbaev was one of the most outstanding
figures at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. Undoubtedly it was his best
match in the Russian national team squad.
"At first it was very difficult because Wales held their attacks
at my flank", said Yanbaev. "And frankly speaking I was confused
a little bit at the beginning of the match. After that I got used to the
game and it became easier to play".
"Ahead of the match I was nervous because I don't get a chance to
take part in such a decisive game every day. I calmed down only after
the fifteenth minute".
"I think we played very well and sealed a very important victory.
In general this match was not easy because Wales turned to be very serious
opponent".
"I played against British team for the first time in my career and
now I am aware of level of English Premier League. British players are
in perfect physical form and they always fight till the very end of the
match".
"Of course our more experienced players helped me during the game.
Vasiliy Berezutsky, Ignashevich, Zyryanov and Arshavin gave me valuable
advice".
"I want to say that I get much pleasure from football shown by our
national team. it always happen when the team strives to play attractive
attacking football".
"I understood that Russia won this match when Roman Pavlyuchenko
fired in the third goal. Several minutes before it Wales created dangerous
moment and it's great that Pavlyuchenko's goal calmed down our team".
"Guus Hiddink praised us after the game for showing our fighting
spirit. Before the match he told me that I should be careful in defence
and try to join our attacks".
"Our national team will gather together again at the beginning of
October for decisive matches against Germany and Azerbaijan. If we collect
six points, we will finish qualifying campaign as leaders of our group".
"I spent nine days in the national team squad and now it's necessary
to switch back to my club matters. Lokomotiv will face a difficult encounter
in Nalchik and I need to prepare for it carefully".
