"If you think that something is possible it turns out
so," said the Dutch specialist about the performance of CSKA and
Rubin in the Champions League.
"Of course when you score three goals at Old Trafford and finish
up with a draw it deserved respect. I think that the defence of CSKA played
well and all the goals of the Muscovites were so spectacular."
"I enjoyed both brave bright football and the result on the scoreboard.
As for the fact that the Army club failed to hold the victorious score
I can say that only few teams can even tie the score at this stadium."
"Rubin also impressed me a lot. I have watched the match of the Kazan
club at Nou Camp as well as the return leg in Russia. The main word characterizing
Rubin in these matches is confidence!"
"Of course they played as amended to the power of Barcelona but at
the same time they knew perfectly well weak and strong points of the opponents."
"Of course the tactical background is very important but I cannot
say that Berdyev won Guardiola. Players enter the field."
"A coach cannot win the match alone or does not usually lose it alone.
We tend to look for specific scapegoats whom we can blame for the loss
or one particular winner. Though the entire team wins."
"The play depends a lot on the score. Had Ibrahimovic scored on the
second minute everything would have turned out differently. But he had
not scored and this is football. Though a coach can devise a very good
strategy and that was what Berdyev did."
"This is exactly the charm of football! Quite often you can predict
the result of the 10-match opposition but it two-three matches anything
can happen. There were, are and will be surprises in football."
"The good display of both Russian clubs in the matches against last
year's Champions League finalists shows that you can do more than you
think if you are well prepared, know what to oppose to a particular team
and are not afraid to take up the running."
"Especially important is that lesson for the young players of CSKA
and Rubin. When players of such age play at such stadiums and gain such
experience it can influence their careers a lot."
"Just imagine: two-three years ago Dzagoev was in the academy in
Tolyatti and now he gets a chance in the Champions League! In Europe I
hear questions about Russian players and that is good."
"Many people ask me about Dzagoev. And it started a year ago, when
at the age of 18 he debuted in the national squad against Germany in Dortmund.
When there is an opportunity use it to let the youngsters get the smell
of powder."
