Russian international Roman Pavlyuchenko is close to returning
to his national league as Zenit Saint Petersburg have started talks on
the striker's transfer with English Premier League Tottenham Hotspur.
Zenit is eager to pay €11 million, plus bonuses, for the 27-year-old
striker, who lacks a place in the London club's lineup under coach Harry
Redknapp.
According to Sport-Express newspaper, Tottenham are interested in the
deal, but want the transfer sum to be increased to at least to €16
million.
In addition, Pavlyuchenko's former club Spartak Moscow, as well as Spain's
Valencia and Turkish side Besiktas, have expressed interest in the striker,
who scored 15 goals for his country.
Roman Pavlyuchenko joined Spurs from Spartak Moscow for £14 million
after a successful performance at Euro 2008, where he scored three goals
and reached the semis together with his teammates.
The striker scored five goals in the Premier League and nine goals in
the Cups in his first season in England, impressing the fans, who nicknamed
him "Super-Pav".
However, things have not been super for the Russian in recent months.
Harry Redknapp blamed Pavlyuchenko for not working hard enough during
training and openly criticizes his unwillingness to learn English.
Pavlyuchenko has played just a few games this season, scoring only once
against a lower division side in the cup.
