"Taking into account that in ten matches of the group
stage Slovenia conceded only four goals I can say that they can play in
defence very well," said Weiss.
"They are playing very compactly and very well disciplined. It is
very difficult to find a hole in their penalty area and the Russians should
be aware of it."
"The trump card of your team should be speed - the Slovenian defenders
are tall, powerful but a bit slow."
"And I think that the high-class players should be able to double-cross
them and you have such footballers - Arshavin, Kerzhakov, Pavlyuchenko
and other stars. Your technique is simply better than the one of Slovenia."
"On the one hand it is true that Slovenia is a team without stars.
They are strong united. They have a strong team on the pitch and that
is the merit of the their head coach Matjaz Kek."
"He is a very bright specialist. I know him from different coach's
seminars and we also met and talked during the World Cup qualification."
"Kek has been training the national team for three years, does not
go from one extreme to the other, change the squad reluctantly preferring
the established combinations. He takes at tactics and playing discipline."
"Kek can read the game perfectly and conduct it masterfully making
corrections. Another advantage of the Slovenian coach is that he thoroughly
studies his opponents."
"He can clearly define strong and weak points of the rivals and what
is more important he takes advantage of this knowledge in the play."
"And he has several very good players. I mean Novakovic and his partner
Dedic. Both are rather large for strikers but nevertheless they are very
fast."
"The soul of the Slovenian squad is the midfielder Robert Koren.
I know him not only for his performance in the national team but also
for his display in the English West Bromwich."
"The wings of Slovenia also play wonderfully. Most of their goals
are scored due to counterattacks with the halfback Kirm and forward Birsa
playing main parts."
"The goalie is the half of the team and Samir Handanovic fully reflects
this idea. He has been playing for Udinese for many years and gained great
experience of the Italian Serie A. I would like to compare his potentials
to Akinfeev."
"By the way experience is one more trump of the Slovenian team. It
has played unchanging squad for three years already. So Russia is to meet
a strong opponent and I can wish you good luck.
"Though I would like to make a monster of the Slovenian team. Still
they have many weak points and the individual level of the Russian players
is much higher."
