Pavlyuchenko a January bargain:I beg to differ
Football FanCast guest columnist Paul Simpson
feels that Pavlyuchenko represents more of a gamble than a bargain, for
any interested clubs.

According to Brian Reade, of the Mirror, Roman Pavlyuchenko
will prove one of the bargains of the January window, if any club is willing
to pay the reported £10m fee. I certainly don't share that view
and would be biting the hands off any club willing to cough up such a
fee.
Perhaps his performances on the pitch are slightly understated, as his
goals per game ratio is good, but so was Darren Bent's (there isn't a
part of me that ever regretted seeing him leave White Hart Lane) but it
is the attitude of the Russian that grates with me and his lack of desire
and stomach for a fight. You compare the way he has reacted to being left
out, to that of Peter Crouch and it just shows what kind of professional
he is. Pavlyuchenko certainly had his chances to stake a claim, certainly
when Harry first took over, but it was his application in those games
that forced Redknapp to look for reinforcements in January.
I know Tottenham in the past have been guilty of writing off players too
soon, failing to give them enough opportunity to succeed, but I don't
really believe that to be the case here. Pav's poor attitude, a trait
that Hiddink and countless others have pointed out, is the reason he is
out of the team and why he is now fighting for his World Cup place. Roman
needs to realise that unlike the poor quality Russian league, the Premier,
like La Liga and Serie A are reliant on squads and the rotation of players,
therefore unless you are outstanding in your chosen position, you'll always
have a fight to be a first choice. It is a shame that Pav hasn't woken
up to modern methods and if he feels that it will be any different for
him, if he moved elsewhere, then he will be sorely mistaken.
I guess if Pav does get his wanted move away from Tottenham then I wish
him all the best, but at the same time I will not be sad to see him leave.
I don't believe Spurs will live to regret his departure, as I feel his
attitude will always cause issues wherever he goes therefore any ?10m
move from WHL will represent more of a gamble to another team than a bargain
that has otherwise been suggested.
