RUMOURS SWIRL OF HIDDINK'S FUTURE
Though unconfirmed at the time of this writing,
a variety of news agencies, notably Italy's 'La Gazzetta dello Sport',
are suggesting that Serie A powerhouse Juventus are ready to hand their
managerial reigns to Russia leader Guus Hiddink.

Further speculation suggests that Russian Football Union
(RFU) is willing to authorize a situation, whereby Mr. Hiddink would split
his duties, for the time being, assuming he forfeit his salary as manager
of the Russian side while doing so.
The rumour of Juventus' interest has circulated for quite some time and
while previously dispelled, this round of commentary could have some merit
as the Italian side is nearing a point of desperation after a recent tailspin.
After falling 3-0 at home to Milan, there is a strong call to replace
present manager Ciro Ferrara with the Dutch specialist, seen as the perfect
anecdote to their recent woes. While it entirely possible that there is
a move in the immediate horizon coming in Turin, it is slippery slope
from Russia's perspective should Guus Hiddink be handed the job.
While there is quite obviously, a basic similarity between the situations
with Chelsea when Mr. Hiddink handled both duties, the grim realization
that Russia's failure to qualify for the World Cup puts a further twist
to the situation.
Presuming the position is not a short-run emergency role, whereby he would
return to his post for Russia at the end of the present Serie A campaign,
it could put in question the amount of time he is able to commit to long-term
preparations for Euro 2012 and satisfy one of the RFU's major goals of
improving junior development programs.
Quite naturally, like any rumour, time will tell if whether it is fact
or merely intriguing fiction.
