Roman Pavlyuchenko's hopes of returning to Russia are mired
in difficulties.
The Tottenham Hotspur striker's agent denied any knowledge of a reported
?10.2million bid by Zenit St Petersburg and Sportsmail understands the
Russian club's board and new boss Luciano Spalletti are at loggerheads
over whether to push through a deal for the 28-year-old.
In contrast, Zenit are expected complete the signing of Russia striker
Alexander Kerzhakov from Dynamo Moscow for a bargain ?2.7m fee before
the end of the week.
With no one yet willing to meet Spurs ?15m asking price, Pavlyuchenko's
former club Spartak Moscow would only be able to get close by spreading
payments over several years, which is likely to receive a frosty reception
in north London.
Lokomotiv Moscow are the other seriously interested party in Pavlyuchenko's
home country, but the collapse of a move for Dynamo Kiev midfielder Oleksandr
Aliyev has raised doubts about their funds.
Pavlyuchenko's failure to clinch a quick return home has alerted clubs
in the rest of Europe, but a formal offer has failed to materialise from
the reported interest of Galatasaray and the striker would prefer to either
play in Russia or England.
Birmingham City, Fulham and West Ham United have shown interest
in loan deals, but Spurs want cash.
